 GM Bodies - Easy as A, B, C

In my youth, I was an avid reader on anything automotive. And the newspapers and magazines I read often stated a GM car was going to use an A-B-C or D body design. Back then, such nomenclature was at best confusing. I never was really able to understand its meaning. It wasn’t until many years later I was able to clear up this alphabet soup to understand what the General really meant...

Documenting your Classic

The paperwork that spells out the histories of our cars is – for me – as captivating as any other aspect of our hobby. Maybe even more so than wrenching or polishing, once you’re too brittle to kneel! ...

Detailing your Cadillac for Spring

As the weather gets better we all will use our old cars more, and that usually means that we want them to look and run as well as possible.  If you plan on having your car judged at a local multi-make show, the judging will obviously be done by a less critical eye than it will at a regional or a national Cadillac event.  So, here are some considerations for you to ponder...

Tips for traveling in your collector car

Folks, we cannot stress it too much: Check your car before you head out for a 500-mile tour. No one can prevent ALL breakdowns, but our last two tours have been flawless because everyone did a basic check before departing. We never want to leave you beside the road, but sometimes there’s little choice with a dozen cars and deadlines. Here's a great checklist to ensure you enjoy your ride ...

Should I buy a CTS-V?

I get questions from Peach State members about all sorts of things pertaining to Cadillacs. Sometimes these questions have to deal with a brake performance issue, the right oil to use, the proper tire rotation schedule, or some other aspect of keeping our beloved make on the road. Other times folks ask about selling a Cadillac. Sometimes a member is looking for guidance on how to FIND the right Cadillac for their wants and needs. These are the times when a $25 membership really pays off. And if that entices a curious friend to join us, even better! Click on the button below to read an exchange between members regarding the purchase of a CTS. ...

Refreshing the Interior of a '58 Extended Deck Sedan

In 2006, I became the third owner of a turquoise and white 1958 Extended Deck sedan (Model 6239E). The Turk (short for turquoise) is a straight, black- tagged California car, all
original, with turquoise (28) and alpine white (12) paint, turquoise and black Morrocan interior (36) with aqua headliner and dash paint. She’s got four doors – which makes her a driver. She is not a convertible, not even a Coupe de Ville. And not all that rare: number 14,571 of 20,952 made that year, according to the build sheet. Not a highly desirable Caddie to collectors, but exactly like the one I learned to drive in back in ’65. I had never re-done an interior. But I’ll try anything once. Here’s how I did it, in case you’re next. ...

Classic Cadillacs and Coker Tire

Lee Dunn details his experience with Coker Tire — the good, the bad and the ugly. Lots of great advice when you experience a tire issue on a longer driving tour, too...

Selling Your Allanté: A Lesson for ALL Cadillac Owners

(Shared by The Potomac CLC Region)  We are hoping you are looking to buy an Allanté, but if you are looking to sell, then I’m going to try to make you understand the pros and cons of buying and selling an Allanté.  Go ahead, take one for a ride, but please make sure you do a comparison to one that is well maintained.  If anyone is asking $5,000 or under, you can rest assured you will need it serviced.  Other than the Mercedes Benz SL, you won’t find a full size car with only two seats.  Now let’s talk SL!  The ride compared to the Allanté is no comparison.  The SL is bumpy, and if you think parts are cheaper think again...

Jay Leno Hates Ethanol!

Jay's got plenty to say on this topic, starting with...  "There have been a lot of old-car fires lately. I went through the ’70s, the ’80s and most of the ’90s without ever having read much about car fires. Suddenly, they are happening all over the place. Here’s one reason: The ethanol in modern gasoline—about 10 percent in many states—is so corrosive, it eats through either the fuel-pump diaphragm, old rubber fuel lines or a pot metal part, then leaks out on a hot engine … and kabloooooie!!!" ....
